Dr Heike Bartel is Trustee with portfolio for research and academia and joined the board in 2019.

Heike is associate professor of German at the School of Cultures, Language and Area Studies at Nottingham Trent University, and Leader of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) - research network: Hungry for Words: an interdisciplinary approach to articulating, communicating and understanding Male Anorexia Nervosa which First Steps ED has been a key partner and supporter of alongside the boys and men eating disorder charity Men Get Eating Disorders Too.

Heike works across the AHRC to educate and deliver further research into the rise among boys and men impacted by eating disorders and to break the perception that eating disorders are a female only problem.

This includes sign-posting EDISS to train Lecturers’ by enhancing their knowledge of and to spot the signs of general mental health and eating disorders in students through our Skills for Professionals and Continued Professional Development (CPD) packages across both universities.
